Murray Independent School District gets funding for major projects

MISD Public Information

The Murray Independent School District recently received funding for three upgrade and improvement projects from South Eastern Book Company (SEB) (www.sebook.com), College Book Renter (CBR) (www.collegebookrenter.com) and Chuck and Sarah Jones.

The first project is a remodel and upgrade of the Murray Middle School auditorium which will consist of new stage and window curtains and a new sound system. The second project is the renovation of the Murray High School tennis courts. The existing five tennis courts will be repaved and resurfaced, and one court will be added.

The third project will upgrade the Murray High School track. The current six lane track will be expanded to include two new lanes. According to Sherry Purdom, Murray Independent School District's public information officer, the original lanes will be repaved and then restriped. "The new lanes will accommodate additional running lanes as well as improve the pole vault, long jump and high jump areas," Purdom said. One of the biggest benefits of the track upgrade is that the project will now make it possible for track meets to be held on campus at MHS.

Local business owners Chuck and Sarah Jones offered to pay one-half of the costs for the improvement projects; the MISD Board will cover the other half of the cost. "We are very excited and thankful for the contributions from the Jones family and the local book companies," said Purdom.

Bob Rogers, Murray Independent School District superintendent, indicated these projects will be completed by fall when students return to school. "We are extremely thankful for the contributions Mr. and Mrs. Jones make to our children," he said. "Through their donation we are able to upgrade and continue to provide first class facilities for our boys and girls."
